- 2 cans garbanzo beans (chickpeas) - 15 oz each
- 1/4-1/2 cup olive oil or vegetable oil
- 1-2 teaspoons minced garlic
- salt to taste start with 1/2 tsp
- 1 tbsp water
Drain and rinse 2 15 oz cans of garbanzo beans and add to food processor.
Add oil (I think more is better!), garlic, and salt. Add a little bit of water (helps with the smoothness).
Mix all in the food processor for about a minute. If it's not blending completely stop and scrape down the sides with a spatula and add more water or oil - a tiny bit at a time.
Keep mixing it with the spatula and blending it with the food processor and adding salt to taste and oil and water for consistency.
- At first your hummus might look like it will always be lumpy but give it time and take the time to add things slowly and mix and blend very well and it will get there! Don't over salt but add lots of oil.
- The water is there to add a creamy texture. It's optional but I think it makes it just right
- This is a base recipe so add in whatever spices and seasonings you think would go well. I love this recipe just like this!
- I add my hummus to salads and eat it with tortilla chips or green peppers.
