Why I Don’t Decorate for Fall

Even though I am a basic midwestern girl who loves Starbucks, wears scrunchies and claw clips, and has a goldendoodle, I still don’t decorate for fall.  It might come to a shock to some people or you might not care at all but I am going to tell you the reasons why.

1: To Save Money

This might be the number one reason I do (or do not do) most things.  As much as I like to splurge on things here and there I am not one to go out and buy a ceramic pumpkin just because everyone else on Instagram is doing it.

I want to be very purposeful on what I spend my money on and fall décor is not one of those things.  Fall is just a blip on the radar here in Michigan even though we do indeed have the season.  It’s so fleeting that I don’t see the need to decorate for something so short.

2: I’m Not a Halloween Person

You might be saying “Brittany, this post is about fall, not Halloween.”  But lots of times decorating for fall is just the gateway drug to decorating for Halloween.  Bat covered walls for “spooky season” and pumpkins turning into jack-o-lanterns.  It’s all the same to me.

Since my family isn’t a big “let’s celebrate for Halloween” type of gang I don’t feel the need to decorate for either.  I want to make it quite clear at this time that I in no way judge or hate on anyone who decorates for fall or Halloween or anything in between because you do you boo!  I’m just one to shy away from these things purely out of convenience and these listed reasons.

3: I Do Things that Bring Me Joy

Not to get completely Marie Kondo on you but I want things in my house to bring me joy.  Having to switch around my objects in my house every few months because the weather changes does not make this mama happy.

I want to put things in my home that I intentionally choose and are peaceful and beautiful that have a place.  I want the items to have a purpose or a story or calm me somehow.  I do like to decorate and try to change things up when I get bored but have no urge to do that for the season of autumn.

4: No One Regularly Visits My Home

To be real, who am I showing off for?  I get if you like to do fall decorating for yourself then BY ALL MEANS!  But seriously there’s a handful of people that see my home in this month we have of fall and most of those people wouldn’t care if I had literal garbage taped to the wall.

I’m also not showing off my home on Instagram during this time purposefully or something like that so who am I really trying to impress?

(Maybe if I did decorate for this season I would show it off more… who knows.)

5: There are More Important Things to Decorate For

Catch me at Christmas bro!  I am a Christmas loving child and I absolutely go all out for Jesus’ birthday.  And some friends might even say my Christmas decorating is mild but in my book I go bananas.

It seriously isn’t even that much but it’s just enough for me that it transforms my living room and dining room and it absolutely brings me joy.  Twinkle lights, homemade ornaments, a tree covered in yarn, that’s my jam.

So find that thing you love, go crazy, be yourself.  I seriously promise I’m not dissing people who love to spruce up their homes for fall, I’m just not your gal.  And these are purely my opinions.

And I will not lie to you I will put up a fall wreath on my door and I have one 6×6 inch sign that says “happy fall” that I display because my friend made it and it’s beautiful.  I’m a walking contradiction, oh well.  Also I’m a woman and allowed to change my mind, right?

Alright that’s all.  Happy Fall all you lovelies!
