DIY Wall Scroll

Hello there!  If you didn’t know already, I love a good DIY.  Especially one that is super easy and anyone could do!  I love seeing something in the store or on Instagram and thinking “oh I could TOTALLY make that.”  This is one of those things.  And it’s so easy to personalize.

These are a couple that I have made.  The brown one was my first go at it.  And this second white one I made for a friend’s baby girl nursery!  It’s a quote from Mercy Me.

So if you buy the dowel and craft paper and have some markers and string and hot glue on hand this project should cost you less than $4!  And it ends up being quite a big piece of artwork.

Let’s get started.

Here are the items you’re going to need for this project:

  • 45″ wooden dowel .25″ diameter (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)
  • brown craft paper (you can find some at Dollar Tree!)
  • yarn or string to hang the scroll and if you want to add pom poms or tassels
  • pencil
  • dark marker
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks

1. First you want to cut about 4-5 feet of your craft paper and lay it out on a large surface.  I used something to weigh it down at the top and bottom so it wouldn’t curl up on me.

2. Leaving room to curl the top and bottom later, find the mid section of the paper and use your pencil to write out your quote or saying you want.

3. Take your time writing out your words with your dark marker.  Remember, these materials are cheap so if you mess up, it’s ok!

4. After you’ve written out everything it’s time to scroll it up!  Heat up that hot glue gun and scroll in the top as far as you want (I made mine a couple of loops…does that make sense?).  Glue the loop down all the way across.  Repeat for the bottom side.

5. All you need to do now is stick your dowel through the top loop and use your yarn or string to make a hanging.  I think I only cut about 4 feet of yarn so the hanging wouldn’t be too far down because it stretches a little.  Tie the yarn to both ends of the dowel and hang!

You can always add tassels or pom poms or anything you want to the ends to add more decoration.  It’s definitely a statement piece by itself!

I hope you have fun making this quick little project!
