So today we are talking all about my laundry room makeover. Specifically the DIY shiplap wall I did (with some help) that was inexpensive and fairly easy to do!
Let’s get started! Here is the before of everything when we first moved in:
Red walls, bad tile that went past the counter on both sides. Not my style. So we gave that room a fresh coat of paint, removed that tile, installed a new light fixture above the sink and it really helped make that room so much more beautiful already!
Now to get started with the shiplap wall. We went to Home Depot and found some plywood sheets. We bought two sheets of 1/2 inch plywood and had them cut it into 8 inch wide strips in store. I believe it was about 25 cents per cut which is so nice to have done for you especially because we don’t own a saw!
My dad was the expert here so he ended up bringing over his saw and helping us make smaller cuts. He cut the boards to size width-wise and used wood glue and a nail gun to attach them to the wall. (it should be said that we removed the trim from the window and baseboards first along with anything hanging on the wall)
The gaps between the boards were made by placing a nickel between them. We used 3 nickels as spacers as we installed the next board (and I say “we” because that is basically all I contributed to hanging up these boards on that day – holding nickels and boards while my dad nailed everything in place).
It’s already looking so good!
After all my dad’s hard work all I had to do was prime and paint it. I used several coats of primer as it soaked in super quickly. I would recommend using a roller because I used a small paint brush and it took me ages. Live and learn.
After all the painting was done the my dad actually built and installed new trim around the window to give the room a more farmhouse look and everything went back up on the walls.
Trim painted, more projects being done in the bathroom… There’s always something to be done around the house, right!?
And my final step to this bathroom was installing some new tile behind the sink. I got this stick-on fake tile from Amazon. It was super easy to overlap and put on. One of the only things I did by myself and I was super proud.
The final result! It’s my new favorite room in the house! That chic-farmhouse-white vibe I was looking for was accomplished. But don’t be fooled. We have lived in this house for 3 years and have been working on this project since day 1. I think within the first week we were painting the walls from red to cream so it has been a long time coming. And no one to blame but myself because I’m quite the lazy bum.
If you have any questions about the process let me know! I’d love to know if you’ve done some DIY shiplap or easy room renovations. It’s so nice to make your house into your HOME. I love that simple laundry room half bath can feel so cozy and mine now.
