Mother’s Day is so fun to shop for because you can get a simple card, do a whole event, or buy the perfect present. I’ve appreciated the holiday so much more the last few years as I became a mom. I rounded up a few ideas for you to get that special mom in your life (or to treat yourself!)
I only recommend products I would use myself and all opinions expressed here are our own. This post may contain affiliate links that at no additional cost to you, I may earn a small commission.
1. Gift basket
I love a good basket of goodies. It’s my thing. A perfect mother’s day gift basket would include things like slippers, essential oils, and lots of candy. I’ll add a few ways to make it personal for each category don’t worry! Mother’s day is always knowing the way to mom’s heart.
Make it personal: gather all your mama’s favorite snacks, scents, color, or brand of things and toss it all in a cute basket from the dollar store or Target!
2. Heating pad or Neck Massager
Sounds a little funny but all moms have aches and pains. If they didn’t already have a heating pad they really need one now. Or get this neck massager that you can wrap around your shoulders and back and apply as much pressure as you need! I have a friend who has one and it is MARVELOUS!
Make it personal: add in some comfort snacks or a bottle of wine and tell her you’ll use it too when you come over for a girl’s night!
3. Macrame Key Chain
These are so trendy and absolutely adorable. I would recommend to try making one but there are great options out there to purchase too! There’s cute simple macrame key chain sets or a small rainbow key chain.
Make it personal: make it yourself! I believe in you! Look up an easy YouTube tutorial and tie some knots!
4. Wine Glass or Coffee Mug
You can’t go wrong with either of these! She’s normally a coffee drinker or a wine lover (or both like me!) and she’ll love an insulated tumbler which is useful for both.
Otherwise get her a special mug or a witty wine glass.
Make it personal: add in her favorite beverage to fill up that cup. Or get a matching cup for you and text her when you use it!
5. Makeup Bag
She’s probably in need of an update! This makeup organizer is perfect for travel but so great for every day use. You can customize the compartments and really fit a lot of stuff!
Make it personal: throw in your favorite mascara (because if it was me I know mine expired a while ago) or add a lip gloss or facial mask too!
6. Silicone Oven Mitts
I don’t know what I was doing with my life before I had these. These oven mitts are rubbery part way and then just go way far up your arm and you have no worries of burning yourself. Also you can just wipe them clean. Game changer!
Make it personal: add a batch of homemade cookies or tie a recipe around a spoon and put them inside the mitts. Anything baking related is really good here!
7. Label Maker
Here’s one for all your organizing mamas. Gosh I love my label maker. It’s a super simple one with that old school typewriter font that just looks cool. I use mine to label my spices and my kid’s cup or my fridge shelfs or my pantry.
Make it personal: put it together with some ball jars, canisters, empty spice jars, or anything classic that would be perfect to put a label on.
8. Photo Puzzle
You can order these from a lot of places you can get a photo puzzle from Amazon too. Basically you you upload a picture and they send you the puzzle! (sometimes these take a little more time to ship so start early!) This is such a special gift because you can capture a moment in time but make an activity out of it too!
Make it personal: this one already pretty personalized but just take time choosing your photo and make it really special.
-> OOO I thought of something! Maybe put the puzzle together ahead of time and write a special message on the backside so they have to do the puzzle to get your note! Sneaky…
9. Salon Gift Card
Instead of getting her nail polish or a jade roller or some scrubby thing she’s going to throw in the back of the drawer, get her something she has to use!
Make her book that pedicure or get her hair trimmed or get a well deserved massage. Mom is tired and mom needs alone time.
Make it personal: Set her up with an IPSY subscription! I did this for my makeup loving friend last year and it was a big hit. You can personalize items tailored to your preference and it comes once a month or as often as you want it!
-OR-
Tell her you’re going with! Go get your nails done or highlights done together! Really you need to treat yourself too if you’re a mom or not!
10. Tiny Necklace
Some trends come and go but this is such a classic and everyone needs a little necklace. Whether it says “mama” or has their or their child’s initials or a small flower on it, it is such a perfect gift.
Make it personal: Get one that has all their children (or grandchildren’s) initials on it. You can do this with rings or bracelets too!
11. Tea Towel
A hand towel definitely is something everyone already owns and has in abundance but stick with me here. Imagine you’re a mom and you circulate through the same 6 kitchen towels that have stains, no absorbency, lost all their color and are starting to fray.
Imagine receiving a brand new neutral towel that matches your kitchen vibes and has that look of hope to it. This towel represents more than just something to dry your yogurt covered hands on and for your kids to throw on the floor everyday. It represents a fresh start to a new day.
Make it personal: Bundle this towel with a matching washcloth (or a homemade one!) or with your favorite hand soap!
12. Fancy Soap Containers
Speaking of soap… who doesn’t love a good empty vessel? It’s all the rage these days to take things out of their original packaging and display it in a more beautiful, more eye catching container.
Get her a glass soap pump, or a large jar to put her tide pods in, or a fancy thing for qtips!
Make it personal: Provide her with the fancy soap or tide pods. Why not? It’s probably on her Costco list anyway. Why not save her a trip?
13. Fridge List Notepad
A magnetic notepad for your grocery lists is always a handy item and you never seem to buy them for yourself! So next time you see one that screams “I would love to have that so I need to give it to someone” just pick it up because you know it’ll make someone else’s day!
Make it personal: write a sweet note to that mom on the first page and then add in some of those Dove chocolates with the nice sayings inside too!
14. Stickers or Magnets
These can be little filler items for your cute gift basket or something to put in the envelope with the card! You can find fun stickers on Amazon or basically any craft show these days and even get them custom ordered places. Put the stickers on notebooks, water bottles, laptops and feel young and trendy again!
Magnets use to be purely functional but I now have ones from my favorite places or pretty ones to liven up my kitchen! I love these mini famous art work magnets.
Make it personal: Make a custom magnet of a photo of you two or the grandbabies using Shutterfly. I’ve done that before and their fairly reasonable. Sometimes your local grocery store or CVS does something similar too!
15. Faux Plant
Can’t go wrong here! Not everyone has a green thumb and some people even need help keeping succulents alive (love you mom). This is why fake plants were invented. You can get really inexpensive ones that still look realistic too!
Make it personal: have your child (or yourself) decorate a pot to put the plant in! It gives it that personal touch that’s not 100% store bought.
16. Cozy Robe
Do you have a comfy cozy fluffy robe? If you do, it’s dreamy right?! If you don’t, doesn’t that sound amazing! Your mom is thinking the same thing. Imagine sipping coffee by your window with your favorite books while it rains outside in your robe. Mmmmmmm.
Make it personal: add in a bath bomb or a new book to make it a super cozy gift!
17. Claw Clips or Hair Clips
These are another one of those things that might be super trendy right now but they came back in style and we totally owned them first in the 90s. Actually I might still have some from the 90s. Let’s not talk about that.
Get her a scrunchie or a set of claw clips or some barrettes so she can feel fun and accessorize her hair!
Make it personal: Make it a little self care moment by adding some eye or feet masks, perfume, candles, lotion, eye shadow pallet, or guasha stone. Let her know she needs to work on her before her kids sometimes and that she’s a great mom.
18. Phone Case or AirPods Case
If you don’t know what kind of phone they have just as their spouse or text someone else to ask them and they’ll never know! It’s like inconspicuously asking someone what their shoe size is.
But this makes for a great gift because there’s unlimited cute options online for every personality. I always get my phone cases from Amazon because they’re cheap and honestly they do last a long time! Amazon has really cute AirPods cases. Wacky ones too!
Make it personal: get one of those clear phone cases and put a polaroid of a precious memory in the back. Or get a mama one that you know she’ll love. Or get her an iPhone to go with it. I don’t know what kind of budget you have…
19. Silicone Baking Cups
I never knew I would want something like silicone backing cups until I found a certain recipe that is way easier when using them. My mother in law introduced me to these low carb key lime pie things you don’t have to bake and you just eat them right out of the little muffin cups and they’re amazing.
Anyway… I would also like them because it’s a great way to save your muffin tins and they’re easily washable. It’s a perfect gift for someone who likes to bake or likes reusable things!
Make it personal: This is another fun baking item so toss in a muffin mix (they have them at the dollar store) or share your favorite recipe or give them to her with cupcakes attached!
20. Wooden Cheese Board
Charcuterie board are still all the rage! Some may call it simply a cheese plate but you can call it whatever you want to make it fancy! Get that special mama a meat and cheese board and let her entertaining dreams fly.
Make it personal: bring it fully stocked! Set up the whole charcuterie thing and make it pretty.
21. Game
What about getting her a family board game? Or a card game that’s perfect to break out at get togethers.
Games are the gifts that keep on giving because you can share in the fun and pass the knowledge to future generations. Most of my family memories are shared around food or games!
Great games for anyone are:
Make it personal: Write a card and set up a game night! Whether it’s with your grown parents or with your young kids, set it up and make it happen! Make it weekly or monthly but be sure to do it and see if your family likes it!
22. Mama Tshirt
Perfect for new moms! There are so many options out there but this simple mama tshirt is so cute and would look good on anyone.
Make it personal: If this is for a new mom, pair it with a good water bottle. Sounds real random right? But those new moms need to stay hydrated for so many reasons and what a great way to start motherhood then with a new cup?
23. DoorDash Gift Card
Now THIS is the perfect gift. She’s a mom. She is sick of making everyone else’s dinners. She is tired of thinking up new things for all the kids to eat. Get her the gift of a free dinner when she needs it delivered right to her door. She will be eternally grateful.
Make it personal: If you don’t want to go the DoorDash route, maybe surprise her with a meal or stop by with a pizza! You’ll get big kudos.
24. Silk Pillow Case
A silk pillow case isn’t just a frilly way to sleep. It’s used for curly hair sleepers, reducing wrinkles, and keeping your pillow cool. There are lots of benefits!
Make it personal: Add in a silk scrunchie or makeup wipes. It’s always a good idea to bundle beauty items together.
25. The Gift of Time
Here I am at the final gift and I’m about to get lovey. But there is seriously no better way to say I love you and thanks for being an awesome mom then spending time with her.
Take her out to dinner or lunch or a latte. Invite her over for soup at your house and then sit on the couch and eat popcorn. Wow all of these have to do with food but seriously that’s where we gather.
Just be sure to know that she’s special and appreciated because that’s what this day is all about and tell her you love her. Either write it in a card or give it in a hug. Moms eat that stuff up, I would know.
Make it personal: cook that meal yourself, or even better just book a reservation. Make plans ahead of time to let her know you were thinking of this day in advance and that you care about her.
You are an amazing friend, daughter, husband, whoever you are looking into getting this mom something special for Mother’s Day. She must already be so loved just knowing you’re thinking about her. And just remember whatever you get her will be just right because you took the time and care to get it for her.
